listening shells.
2021
blown glass murrine, cameo engraving
three pieces, approximately 8 x 20 x 11 cm each
These shells act as tools aimed to encourage states of deep listening to the users surroundings. When I listen to the shells I think of how my mother and grandparents taught me to listen to my surroundings, one teaching being how the blooming wattle symbolises the beginning of lobster season on the South Coast. Whilst listening I also reflect on how this is not knowledge discovered but knowledge acquired and I wonder what other valuable knowledges endure on Dharawal country that I am yet to learn.
